Program Description

Event Details

What is a thaumatrope? It is an old fashioned toy that works through optical illusion! The toy consists of a disk with a picture on each side. When the disk is twirled quickly, the two pictures appear to blend into one due to the "persistence of vision." One classic example of the images on a thaumatrope is a bird on one side and a birdcage on the other. When twirled, it looks like the bird is inside the cage. What two images will you choose?

Kits with everything you need to create your own thaumatrope will be available to pick up a week before the program. Then join us on Zoom to do the project together, share ideas and show off your completed thaumatrope.

For children in grades K-5. Register each child who will be participating separately.
