The title of this presentation - "The Irish in Albany" - speaks for itself. Tonight’s speaker, Jack McEneny grew up in Albany’s Pine Bush area and always wanted to learn & teach history. Between 1825 & 1850 six of his great grandparents were born in Ireland and came to the US and two were born in Albany of Irish Immigrants who then lived the rest of their lives in Albany, NY.

Speaker Bio: Jack McEneny, a former NY State Assembly member, is a popular speaker and lecturer on local history.  He led the effort that saved the 17th Century Quackenbush House and has chaired the Albany Historic Sites Commission.  Jack is a past Albany City & County Historian. He is fascinated by Irish American history from the post-famine era up to the Civil War.  Jack authored the book, “Albany: Capital City on the Hudson”.  One of his favorite topics is the Irish in Albany.


About This Series: The Town of Bethlehem Historical Association (BHA) has been incorporated as a not-for-profit membership organization since 1965. Along with upkeep of collections and exhibits at the Cedar Hill Schoolhouse Museum at 1003 River Rd. Selkirk, the BHA is pleased to continue it's long tradition of presenting fall and spring series of talks by distinguished local speakers on a variety of topics designed to stimulate an appreciation of our historic heritage. We're delighted to have the opportunity to partner with the Bethlehem Public Library in our complementary roles of providing information and enhancing learning and enriching the cultural life of our community.
