NOTE: This program will take place off-site at Five Rivers Environmental Education Center, 56 Game Farm Rd, Delmar, NY.
Calling all intrepid adventurers: interested in trying your hand at orienteering? Presenter Sue Hawkes-Teeter will introduce us to this exciting sport that combines navigational skills with scavenger hunting.
Orienteering, often called the “thinking” sport, has been described as a cross between a trail run and a treasure hunt. Using a very detailed map and a compass, orienteers of all ages try to find flags in the woods to finish their course in the shortest time. In this program, we will learn to identify what the symbols on the map represent, how to orient a map, and how to navigate a basic orienteering course. Running is not required, just an adventurous spirit. Compasses will be provided and long pants are encouraged.
This program will take place at Five Rivers Environmental Education Center. Please meet at the Visitor Center.
In the event of rain, this program will be held on Thursday, July 11 at 10:00am.
